Kathmandu is a fascinating old city today where pagodas, narrow cobbled lanes, old carved windows, and stone shrines are backdrops to the drama of life that continues unhindered. Here the experiences are amazing, views fascinating, and the climate charming. There are living Goddesses whose smiles are a benediction. There are reincarnate Lamas who foresee the future with a roll of dice and scriptural reference. There are walks that lead the adventurous to legendary places where ogres once lived, where Goddesses danced, and where Gods were held ransom by tantric yogis.

It is the site of the Hanuman Dhoka Palace Complex, which was the royal Nepalese residence until the 19th century and where important ceremonies, such as the coronation of the Nepalese monarch still take place. Swayambhu stupa is adorned with a colourful fluttering of prayer flags; it crowns a hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley and offers fantastic views over the city of Kathmandu.  This afternoon Pashupatinath Temple, the holiest Hindu Temple in Nepal that draws Hindu devotees from all over the world. You may also be able to paddle in a dugout canoe to the point where three rivers meet; the perfect place to see the park’s diverse birdlife and maybe even some crocodiles.
