Victory Day

To commemorate the victory of a coup attempt staged by Sri Lankan mercenaries in the year 1988 and to thanks the soldiers who fought for the Maldives sovereignty; Victory Day is celebrated every year on 3rd November as a public holiday to boost the patriotism in the citizens of the country.


Locally known as Ed-al-Adha, this Islamic festival is solemnized to mark the willingness of prophet Ibrahim who sacrificed his dearest son to God. Ed-Ul-Adha, generally referred to as ‘The Feast of Sacrifice’, is celebrated on Tuesday with mass prayers, animal sacrifice and dining out with near and dear ones.

National Day

Observed as a tribute of the day when the Maldivians drove out the Portuguese occupiers after they had ruled the island for over 15 years, National Day falls on the 1st day of the Rabi-ul-Awwal month, depending on the moon sightings. It is a day-off for the general public and comprises root marches and parades to honor the bravery of the Maldives’ citizens.

⦁ What are the rules for the custom visas in Maldives?

No pre-arrival visa is required to enter Maldives because it is a SAARC country and therefore there is a special agreement to allow easy travel. The traveler gets the visa issued on arrival for 30 days stay. But the 30 days visa is the discretion of the Immigration to issue.

Are seaplanes available all day?

No, there is a proper timeline for seaplanes to operate. They can mostly be operated between 6 am – 4 pm. Therefore, it is advisable to schedule your plan accordingly.

Are there any restrictions on luggage on the seaplanes?

Yes, mostly one can carry 5kg for carry and around 20kg for the checked-in-luggage. But the maximum limit is 32 kg for a single bag. A certain amount of fee is charged for any extra baggage. All the limitations are for safety purposes in the seaplanes.

Is it possible to do island hopping?

Yes, you can do island hopping to nearby islands for a local visit or some special activities. But logistic wise, islands that are too far away make it tough to hop-on conveniently from one island to another.

What is the language spoken at the Maldives?

The national language of the country is Dhivehi but English is also widely spoken and understood by most of the people. Whereas, you can find translations in English everywhere.

What should I pack?

Pack your essentials, a valid passport is a must. The Maldives is a tropical place so pack sunblock, summer clothes and easy footwear for the beach. Carry a camera to capture the beauty!
